Cool, crisp mornings have us grabbing for a sweater as we head out the door. It’s the season of layering, nubby textures, and brilliant burnished colors.Stars, Stars & Splendid, and Stars Too are setting the stage for Autumn with great decor for the home.

Sleeping in a bit longer is expected while the coffee brews; but don’t sleep the day away. There are too many activities and adventures to be had.

Cabin Retreat

Grab your boots, a blanket, and a sweater — we’re taking a trip to the mountains, streams, and cabins of the Pacific Northwest where the evening temperatures drop down into the 40s! You’ll find everything for your getaway, as well as cabin decor, at Stars, Stars & Splendid, and Stars Too.

Start your journey to the mountains early in the morning and enjoy the scenery along the way. You’ll want to search for country houses with creative fences, cattle grazing alongside the two land highways, and vineyards to explore and stop in at for tastings!

Be sure to stop at a local diner for an amazing meal and fill your bellies for all the activities in the fresh air.

You’re sure to see some amazing finds for cabin decor. Search out weathered wooden farm pieces and old wagon wheels, rusted tines, and farm machinery pieces with unique architectural elements.

Unique lamp bases and shades help to make a house a home as well as becoming a focal point for a room. Nubby handwoven pillows, pieced log cabin quilts, and fabulous patterned tapestries all become personal statements! Memorial Day Campout

The end of May is in sight, school is finishing up and summer is on the horizon. Memorial Day is Monday, May 25, and marks the beginning of camping at the many National Parks across the country or even in your own backyard. Stars, Stars & Splendid, and Stars Too are bringing out the gear for the perfect trip to the wooded forest!

Be prepared! The training from our youth as we earned our proudly displayed badges still reflect the common sense needed for a successful journey.

Hunting for nature’s treasures, outdoor grilling and barbecue, and singing songs in the evening are a necessity.

Setting up camp, cooking basics, and open campfires will create the comforts of “home away from home” and bring everyone together in activities.

Grab your beverage of choice and plenty of cups.

Grind up coffee and place in a colorful airtight tin for the best cup-o-joe. A handy double thermos carrier allows for fresh coffee as you drive to your destination.

Stop by a local farmer’s market on your way out of town for the best selection and pack plenty of stacking bowls for the outdoors. Fresh fruit is in abundance!

Folding lawn chairs and stools are perfect for packing convenience and shed the moisture of rain and morning dew!

It’s ideal to arrive in time to set up camp during the daylight. Enjoy a day of fresh mountain air, cool streams, and hikes to wildflower fields. Kick back by a fire as dusk settles in and listen to the sounds of the wilderness. If you’re in a large group pack some games to play and the campfire songbook for reminiscing the good old days before technology advanced to iPads and smart phones.

Wake up early with the sun breaking through the trees, grab the frying pans, oil, and get ready for bacon sizzling and eggs frying on a cast iron grill. Brew up the best cup of coffee over an open flame in an old percolater!!

Stars Customer Collections: Laurie

Today with talking with Stars Antiques customer, Laurie. She has been collecting pictures of ladies and their amazing fashion for 20 years! Some rooms in her home display them floor to ceiling! Amazing!

How did you get into vintage?
I have been fond of the Victorian era, collecting pictures and watching old movies. The one in particular was Gone with the Wind. I just loved the dresses the Ladies were wearing.

What is your favorite era?
My favorite era is 1890 – 1930’s.

What is your dream vintage score?
My dream vintage score? STILL LOOKING!

Is there a vintage score that got away?
I always have disappointments when things are out of my budget!

Are there other collectors in your household?
My Mom loves dishes and my sister is always looking for books.

Any vintage shopping tips?
Wear comfortable shoes and enjoy.

What are some of your favorites place to eat, visit or shop in Portland?
Favorite places to eat: Baja Fresh (any location in Portland & Beaverton), Papa Haydn in (Milwaukie), Marcos (Garden Home) & Dessert – Roses (Sherwood). And, of course, Starbucks for coffee.

What is your perfect summer day?
75 to 80 degrees, sunny and a cool breeze blowing.

Stars Customer Collections: Amriel

Meet Amriel. She is another wonderful Stars Antiques customer that we’re visiting with! Amriel has an amazing collection of vintage Barbie dolls. We love Barbie when she had cat-eye eyeliner and a good high ponytail!

How did you get into vintage?
Let’s see I decided I wanted to live life like a girl growing up in this country in the 1960s time period (I was born in 1971). I started reading Nancy Drew books and collecting Barbie simultaneously about 1999 when eBay started out

A few things you particularly love to collect?
My favorite era is 1967, specifically. I like the “Carnaby Street” fashions and Petula Clark, The Supremes, Peggy March, Connie Francis and Lesley Gore.

What is your dream vintage score?
Finding Barbie dolls from 1967 with outfits!

Is there a vintage score that got away?
Yes at the Antique Expo a “Little Black Sambo” illustrated book from 1909 that was only $5 got literally grabbed just before I grabbed it!

Any vintage shopping tips?
Yes, become friends with store employees and managers and give them your want lists and phone number!

What are some of your favorites place to eat, visit or shop in Portland?
Stars Antiques, Powell’s, Billy Galaxy and the Disney Store in Clackamas.

What is your perfect summer day?
Country Time lemonade and a Lindsay Lohan movie with my vintage Uneeda baby-doll and stuffed tiger! πŸ™‚

Valentine’s Day Dazzlers!

We have so much gorgeous vintage jewelry at Stars! Between the two shops we have an amazing range from costume to investment pieces (hello, wedding bells!). There are thousands of dazzling things for yourself or loved ones. It’s Decemberville in PDX!

The holidays are here! Decemberville has returned to Sellwood/Westmoreland–and we are a proud sponsor of this wonderful Portland community event.

Come down and shop the Stars Decemberville Sale this weekend. While the neighborhood sales start at 4pm on Saturday, we’re doing things a little differently. The Stars Sale starts at 11am on Saturday through until 8pm and then we’re starting it back up again on Sunday at 11am until 6pm. (those are our new regular Sunday hours by the way!)
